City or Community Planning essentially involves answering three basic questions in a continuous process. What kind of City are we now? What kind of City do we want to be in the future? And how does the City get to that point in the future? The City arrives at that future point in time by having a “road map” or plan to follow. Without a road map or plan our route is not efficient or effective. Consequently, part of our planning effort (Growth Management) is to develop a road map that has broad community support and is clear in its direction.
Our ordinances (Zoning, Subdivision Regulations, Transportation Impact Analysis, etc.) are the tools we have to implement the plan or road map. The City has citizen advisory groups, technical review committees and consultants to assist us in getting the best product in an inclusive process for all our citizens. The City welcomes public input at all points in the planning process.
