Encountering difficulties in accessing our application?

Is a criminal background check and drug screen required?

All positions with the City of Jacksonville require a criminal records check and pre-employment drug screen.  When the application asks if you have ever been convicted of an offense (other than minor traffic violations) against the law or forfeited a bond, please be sure to be complete in your answer.  Convictions are not an absolute bar to employment.  However, failure to disclose convictions will result in disqualification of your application.

How can I improve my chances of being called for an interview?

Positions with the City of Jacksonville can be very competitive. We recommend that you focus your efforts on those positions where your experience and qualifications closely match the requirements of the position. Read the job announcement carefully, paying close attention to the experience, skills and requirements being sought. Your application will only be considered for positions for which you meet the minimum requirements and have applied.

How long before I should expect to be called for an interview?

All positions advertised are open until filled. The length of time it takes for applicants to be called for interviews or testing and final selection varies from position to position. Some searches will last several weeks and others may last many months.

Will my references be contacted?

References are normally contacted in the final stages of the selection process.  Please be sure to provide valid phone numbers where your references may be reached.

How am I notified if I am not selected for a position?

If you are not selected for a position for which you apply, you will receive e-mail notification when that position is filled.

Since I am a current City employee, do I need to put in all my employment information and educational background?

City employees are encouraged to be complete in the submission of their Request for Transfer.   Be sure to include a complete work history, your educational background and any relevant certifications and skills.

I am a City of Jacksonville employee. Where do I go to view internal postings?

I have already applied for one position and want to apply for a different position.

You can submit a new application for another vacancy.  When you log in to apply for the new position, press the 'Copy' radio button and much of the information from your existing application will be automatically loaded into the application for the new position.

I am applying for a position with the Police Department. Are there any other forms I will need to complete?

Once you have submitted your online application, you will receive a response e-mail directing you to a different site where you will complete an F3 Personal History package.  You will not be considered for a position with the Police Department if you fail to complete this package.

What if I forget my User Name or Password?

Press “Forgot User Name and Password” on your Applicant Log In page.  You will complete the required information and then be given the option of having your password e-mailed to you or displayed.

I don’t have an e-mail address.

Most of our contact regarding position vacancies occurs through e-mail.  If you do not have an e-mail address, emailaddresses.com provides a list of free web-based email services.  This is not a City of Jacksonville site, nor does the City of Jacksonville endorse or warranty that these services will meet your needs.

I don’t have access to a computer. How can I apply for a position?


If you do not have Internet access at home, you can access our online application process at City Hall, public libraries, community colleges and sites aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

I don’t see any jobs that I am interested in.

Since the City of Jacksonville accepts applications only for current vacancies, we encourage you to utilize the Job Agent feature that you will see on your Applicant Profile  page, so that you can be notified when jobs not presently vacant become available.

Do I have to complete an online application?

The online application is the only official way to apply for City of Jacksonville vacancies.  When completing the application, you may attach a resume; however, you must complete all sections of the application.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

How do I view a listing of all vacant positions for the City of Jacksonville?

Visit the Employment Opportunities section on the City of Jacksonville homepage to see a list of all current vacancies.  You will not need to create a log in user name and password to do this. 

If you wish to apply for a position, you will need to create a user name and password.  It is important that you keep this information because you will need it each time you log in.  By using the ID and password, you can check the status of your application at any time.  You may also use your existing application information to apply for new positions as they become available. 

If you need help in completing an application, please visit the Jacksonville City Hall lobby where a workstation is available for this very purpose.  Our staff is also ready to assist you weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
